Euro 2020 Qualifiers And Group Stages

UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers took place between 2019 and late 2020. This time around, teams could also qualify through the new UEFA Nations League. When the dust had settled, 24 Euro 2020 teams had made their way to the finals.

England made light work of their qualifying Group A. They finished top of their group above the Czech Republic, racking up 7 wins out of 8 and scoring 37 goals in the process. The only blip on England’s route to the finals was a 2-1 loss to the Czechs back in October 2019.

Denmark and Russia will enjoy some home advantage in Group B, with Denmark playing all of their games in the Euro 2020 host city of Copenhagen. But both teams will have to contend with the world’s number one side, Belgium, if they are to progress.

Belgium still rely on the nucleus of the side that finished third at the 2018 World Cup. With some home advantage and a favourable route, Belgium will be expecting to go one further this year. Finland could prove to be solid underdogs but will likely bring up the rear.

The Belgians can call on a vast array of talent, much of which plies its trade the English Premier League. The lynchpin is Manchester City’s Kevin de Bruyne, who at 30 will be looking to add a European Championship to his long CV of achievements.

Denmark shouldn’t be discounted and will play the runner-up in England’s group if they finish behind Belgium. The Danes are scoring for fun in 2024 World Cup qualifying and boast some talented goalscorers like Martin Braithwaite of Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur’s Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Netherlands – World Cup runners-up in 2010 – should have too much in Group C and will make easy work of the Ukraine, Austria, and North Macedonia. Plus, the Dutch side will play all their group games in the familiar surroundings of the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam.

The Ukraine finished top of their qualifying group ahead of Portugal, letting in only 4 goals along the way. And while UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying seems like a very long time ago, the Ukraine still have virtually the same side going into the finals. Brazilian-born Junior Moraes is at 34 still the Ukrainians’ star player.

North Macedonia only became an independent FIFA member in 1994 but qualified for its first major football tournament via the play-offs. They caused a shock in March with a World Cup qualifier win over Germany.

Group E is definitely the group of unknown quantities. Spain isn’t the powerhouse it once was, and Poland and Sweden can blow hot or cold when it comes to major football tournaments. Proceed with caution when planning your Euro 2020 online betting.

That said, Spain are runaway betting favourites to top Group E and will play all their games in Bilbao. And with the likes of Ferran Torres of Manchester City scoring for fun up front, Spain should be feared.

Every football tournament has a Group of Death. For Euro 2020, see Group F. Somehow, the group features three of the biggest teams in the world: Portugal, France, and Germany.

But with a potential third-place Group F finisher qualifying from the group depending on other results, it’s possible we could see all three going through. Despite having home advantage in two of their ties, it’s hard to see Hungary making it out.
